Judges 21:25

One of the most telling verses in the Bible is Judges 21:25. The verse says, "In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes". The book of Judges tells the story of the ups and downs of Israel during the period between Joshua and King Saul. Israel followed God for awhile, then the turned away from him. When they turned away and worshipped other gods, they would fall into bondage to the surrounding nations.

The problem is that their morality was relative. What was good for one person was not necessarily good for another person. What one person considered sin, the person beside them may not consider sin. In other words, there was not a fixed standard of morality among them people. This was a problem because God had given them a fixed standard of morality in His law.

We live in a world in which people do that which is right in their own eyes. Bible believing Christians call things sin and are vilified by society for being "hateful" and "bigoted". This is because people want to set their own standard of morality, and totally disregard what God's Word says. We live as though God did not give us the same moral law that He gave Israel.

The further we get from God, the more we will have do deal with the hatefulness of the world towards Christians. Jesus told Nicodemus, "And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil" (John 3:19). In John 8:12, Jesus said "I am the light of the world", and in Matthew 5:14 He told His followers, "You are the light of the world". The world hates Christians because our message says that they cannot decide their own morality without facing the consequences of judgment from God. And yet, we must tell them so that they can know their need for salvation.

Father help us to be bold to share the Gospel. Even when the world hates us for Your truth, may we stand firm and not deny You. We pray for those who will hear, that they will receive Your Word and accept Your salvation.
