I John 5:6-12

Jesus identified Himself not as truth, but as "The Truth" (John 14:6). That means there is no truth apart from Him. 2 + 2 = 4 because Jesus made it so. The sky is blue because Jesus made it so. A lie is sin because it is contrary to who Jesus is. As truth, when Jesus speaks we need to pay attention, and heed whatever it is that He has said. We can trust it because it comes from Him.
This is He who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son. He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
I John 5:6-12
When John says, "This is He who came by water and blood--Jesus Christ", He is identifying that Jesus was born completely human. Jesus was fully man and fully God. He was so at the beginning of His ministry when He was baptized, and He was so when He died on the cross and His blood was shed for us. Not only does the water and blood bear witness of Him, but so does the Trinity. God the Father, the Son, and the Spirit all bear witness and agree. John wants us to think about that for a moment. If we believe 2 or 3 witnesses on a matter, how much more should we believe God when He testifies on a matter. John called Jesus the Christ. God the Father said, "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased" (Matthew 3:17), and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him like a dove (v. 16) placing His stamp of approval on what had taken place. There should be no doubt to anyone who wants to know the truth.
True believers do not doubt the deity of Jesus because they have the Spirit of God in them, and He bears witness within them. There are times we may doubt ourselves. There are times we may feel that we have disqualified ourselves. However, if God's Holy Spirit is in you (salvation) you never doubt that Jesus is the Son of God and the Savior of the world.
So, what John wants us to understand is that if we have the testimony of God's Spirit within us, then we are saved. The very presence of that testimony is evidence that we have been born again. We do not have to doubt. We can have peace because of the presence of God in us. The Holy Spirit is God's earnest money (down payment) that He will see our salvation through all the way into eternity. We can trust God because His words are truth.
Father, thank You for being truth. We thank You that Jesus is the truth. We thank you that Your Holy Spirit is truth. When You tell us anything we can trust it. This means even our Salvation. You do not lie to people about anything, and when You give Your Holy Spirit to live in us, You will see Your plan of salvation all the way through to its completion with us going to Heaven to be with You!
