Lamentations 3:22-24

I do not know exactly how long, but I have been writing devotions for a couple of years now. When I went to the Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule, it took commitment, but I never missed a day. There have been some late nights and early mornings, but I committed to writing them. I recently changed to Tuesday and Thursday, and what do you know, I missed a week. In all fairness, I have been pretty sick. I find myself now, trying to get going again. With all that is going on, I thought of this passage.
Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!”
Lamentations 3:22–24
I ran fever for about 48 hours. I also had a splitting headache for three days. I'm not saying that for sympathy. I reference it because during all of that, I thought about and meditated upon the goodness of God. My circumstances do not dictate whether God is good or not. He is good. My feelings do not determine if God is good. He is good. The only thing that thinking about this did was to remind me that God is good.
Did you pay attention to the scripture reference to the passage above? It comes from a book of the Bible called "Lamentations". Yes, it is exactly what it sounds like. Jeremiah, called the weeping prophet, wrote a book of mourning for the nation of Judah. It was being destroyed in front of him, and it broke his heart. Lamentations is five chapters of weeping, and yet, right in the middle of it, Jeremiah reminded himself that God is merciful, and Great is His faithfulness.
There is so much sickness and suffering going on right now in our community. Hearts are breaking for family members. Fear is waiting to take hold of hearts. No doubt, many are lamenting the news they or a loved one has received. It is important for believers to remind themselves, just as Jeremiah did, that God is merciful, and His faithfulness is Great!
Father, it is so easy for us to get fixated on our problems. When it seems like the world around us is crumbling, remind us who You are. Change our focus from our problems and fears, to Your mercy and faithfulness.
