Glory Appropriation

Ezekiel 29:8-10

We hear a lot about cultural appropriation today. Like many other liberal ideologies, this one is STUPID. Cultural appropriation is when someone dresses or acts like a different culture from their own. An example of this would be "black face" or dressing like a Native American. I agree that these things should not be done to mock a culture, but no longer can we honor a culture either. This same liberal belief is the reason for the sports mascots controversies.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will bring a sword upon thee, and cut off man and beast out of thee. 9 And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste; and they shall know that I am the LORD: because he hath said, The river is mine, and I have made it. 10 Behold, therefore I am against thee, and against thy rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate, from the tower of Syene even unto the border of Ethiopia.
Ezekiel 29:8-10
While we are pitching a fit about cultural appropriation, we should be concerned with "Glory Appropriation". That is what is at the core of these verses. God created the universe and everything in it. He did so for His own glory. So, when Egypt claimed that they had made the Nile, they were "appropriating" God's glory for their own. In Isaiah, God said, "...and I will not give my glory unto another" (Isaiah 48:11). Where "cultural appropriation" brings upon us the wrath of some people, "glory appropriation" brings upon us the judgment of God.
This is not a message that the world wants to hear. That is because they think too highly of themselves. They chose to have a humanistic mindset that results in them being the center of their universe. The idea of relinquishing preeminence to God rather than themselves angers them. This is why there is such an attack on Christianity in our world. Paul said, "And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind..."(Romans 1:28).
May we be sure to give glory where it is due. God alone is deserving of our praise and worship. To Him be glory. As the 24 Elders cry in Heaven, "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created" (Revelation 4:11).
Father, I pray that you would guide my heart. Protect me from being lifted up with pride and trying to appropriate your glory as my own. May my life be a constant praise to you, for you alone are worthy of my praise.
