I Corinthians 2:6-9

Can you imagine playing a game and every move you make is exactly what your opponent wants? No matter how hard you try, you keep playing right into their plans. That would be so frustrating and you would probably want to quit. I know I would! You would reach a point where you asked yourself, "What's the point?". That is exactly what Paul describes in this text, but it is no game.

Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

I Corinthians 2:6-9

In verse 6 and 7, Paul tells the reader that we proclaim wisdom that the world does not understand. It is Godly wisdom that is superior to the wisdom of this world. We constantly see philosophies and ideologies changing. Science is always changing as we learn more. Yet, God's word does not change and it is never disproven.

Not only does the world not understand God's wisdom, but they try to defeat it and Him. This is why religion is always under attack from those who claim to not believe in God. It is why those who do not worship the God of the Bible persecute His followers. Darkness and light cannot coexist and so those in darkness always try to extinguish the light. The great fact is that it is impossible for darkness to conquer light. Where there is light darkness is vanquished.

Paul then makes a statement that must make Satan smart every time hear hears it: "...for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory". From the beginning of time, God's plan has been for Christ to be crucified for the redemption of man. He has not been silent about this. The world simply cannot understand how victory can come through death. According to worldly wisdom death is defeat. So, they crucified Christ thinking they were defeating Him, but in reality they did exactly what He wanted and gave Him the victory.

Finally Paul shares a quote from Isaiah 64:4. Basically it says that it is impossible for people to understand the things of God. They can only be understood by waiting on God to reveal them to us. The great new is that He will if we wait and seek. We do this by being patient but searching the scriptures and praying.

Father, help me to wait on you to reveal your wisdom to me. Help me to not try to figure things out by my own thinking. I know that if I do I will surely fail.
