Ezekiel 23:37

This is a Devotion. There are no graphic pictures.

America is in a horrible state of rebellion against God. We have made ourselves our idols and we live to serve ourselves. In our hedonistic lifestyles, we want actions without consequences. So, abortion is pushed as if it is nothing more that clipping your fingernails. However, God views it very differently. I warn you, this is not a cheery, uplifting devotion. As a matter of fact, it is disturbing. I am not shying away from this though because it is the Word of God.

"That they have committed adultery" is a symbolic way of saying that they have worshiped idols. The "they" is Israel and Judah. These were God's chosen people. I am sad to say that the "church" is ate up with idolatry today. The idol we worship is ourselves. We want what we want and if we cannot find it at our current church, we will find one that will serve us. This is opposed to serving God. We want music that speaks to us, rather than being sung to God. We want a message that makes us feel good and encourages us, rather than one that is for "reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness" (II Timothy 3:16). We have made ourselves our own idols.

"Blood is in their hands" speaks of guilt. There are two applications to this for Christians. The first is that, in serving ourselves, we are not proclaiming the gospel as we should. Ezekiel would later record, "But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand" (Ezekiel 33:6). When we are so focused on pleasing ourselves that we "blow not the trumpet" of the gospel, we (Christians) have the blood of the lost on our hands.

Ezekiel continued, they "have also caused their sons, whom they bare unto me, to pass through the fire". In our hedonistic worship of ourselves, and not wanting consequences for our actions, we have killed 61.8 MILLION babies. America makes Hitler look like an amateur when it comes to killing people. Yes, abortion is a religious practice. It is service to self above God. It is to determine that you have authority of life and death above God. I realize that a very small percentage of women are raped and become pregnant from the rape. As terrible as that is, it does not give them the authority to play God. The crime against the woman is terrible, but that does not mean that an innocent child should be executed for a crime he/she did not commit.

Finally, and this is where it gets disturbing, Ezekiel wrote, "to devour them". We harvest stem cells for research for science. We inject embryonic stem cells into people so that we are literally "devouring" them. I find this absolutely disgusting. To think that part of a murdered baby could be injected into me without my knowing is extremely disturbing. We also know that baby body parts have been harvested for other purposes thanks to undercover investigators who heard Planned parenthood workers bragging and laughing about it. I cringe to think about where baby body parts might turn up, and in what.

I am not trying to be shocking. This is a sad fact about our current culture. I believe completely that we will answer to God for this. I believe America will be judged because our sins are greater than those of Judah's. It would not have been possible for Judah to murder 1,000,000 babies a year. We do. While there is much that we have in common with the idolatry of Judah, we have exceeded her in blood on our hands. God forgive us and turn our hearts!

Father, forgive us! I pray that you would work through those who proclaim your word to change hearts. I pray that you would change hearts to not find this horrible sinful practice as acceptable. May "churches" repent of self-centered hedonism and turn to worship and serve you.
