Another Gospel

Galatians 1:6-9

In 2008 Oprah Winfrey became infamous for saying that there are "many paths to what you call God", "There couldn't possibly be one way.", and "Does God care about your heart or does God care if you call his son Jesus?". I have attached the link so that you can see it for yourself. This is worldly thinking and it is completely contrary to the scriptures. The Apostle Paul had something to say about this in Galatians chapter 1.

I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Paul told the Galatians that if anyone preached another Gospel to them other than what had already bee preached, that person was accursed. The Greek word translated "accursed" means a man accursed, devoted to the direst of woes. This was not idle or flippant talk, Paul was serious. If another "gospel" is preached other than salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, that person preaching it is accursed.

Paul is so serious about this that he includes himself in the curse. He says "though we", meaning even if he or any of the other preachers who traveled with him was to proclaim a different gospel that they would be included in the curse. Not only does he include people but also angels or spirits in the curse. That pretty much sums up anything that could speak. Paul did not care if it was flesh and blood or a spirit, if they preached any other gospel, they should be accursed.

Contrary to what Oprah said, and many others believer, there is only one way to God. That way is His way. That way in Jesus Christ. By arguing that there are millions of ways to God, these people demonstrate their ignorance of the word of God. They view God as a concept and not a person. It does not matter what he things, wills, or does, all that matters is what you do. It is a works based process that they Bible clearly states will not put us in good standing before God.

Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6). To say that there are millions of ways to God is to call Jesus a liar. If he is a liar then he is a sinner. If he is a sinner then he cannot be our Savior. If he is not our Savior then we have no hope of redemption or heaven. This is the problem with this worldly belief and argument. Jesus said the path was very narrow. There is only one road for all of humanity. You either take it or you go to Hell. Also, if these people would study before they attempt to pontificate on what they do not understand, then they would see that what Jesus said is in agreement with the rest of scripture. You can believe it or not, but you are responsible for your choice. God has stated how to get to Him and He has provided the way through His Son.

Here is the gospel. We are all sinners (Romans 3:23). What we earn for our sins is death and hell (Ezekiel 18:4, I Corinthians 6:9-10). Jesus died on the cross for our sins (John 3:16). If we believe in our hearts and confess with that Jesus is Lord and that God raised him from the dead for ours sins, we will be saved (Romans 10:9-10)

Father, help me to clearly proclaim the gospel. Help me to faithfully proclaim the gospel. I pray that people would receive it and turn to you. Thank you for making the way simple and free to all who will receive you.
