Leviticus 20:13; Deuteronomy 22:5; I Corinthians 6:9-11, Romans 1:18-32

Typically. I try to start my devotions off with some story that introduces the topic. Not today. Today I am going to invite you to pass on by this post. If you are not interested in the truth of God's Word, what follows is not for you. If you are more interested in a social gospel, rather than righteousness and holiness, what follows is not for you. I'm not saying we have to be in agreement from the beginning. You may disagree with what I will say, but if you continue on, you should understand that this is not what I say, it is not MY position, it is what God says through His Word.
If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.
Leviticus 20:13
A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the LORD your God.
Deuteronomy 22:5
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
I Corinthians 6:9-11
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
Romans 1:18-32
Yes, that is A LOT of scripture. I will not break it down verse by verse. I simply want to establish that both the Old and New Testament speak to this topic. That topic is, the LGBTQ movement is sin. There is no way around it if we claim to be Bible believing Christians. Either we believe what God's Word says, or we do not. That being said, there are some things we need to make clear, but not try to explain away.
Leviticus 20:13 very clearly states that homosexuality is a sin. The verse speaks of lying down with another man as with a woman. The purpose of wording it this way is to connect the lying down with a sexual relationship. Also, there is the penalty of death for those caught in the act of sin. This is the same penalty that is required for those caught in the act of adultery. Remember, all sins have consequences. Romans 3:23 says "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord". Sin puts us all under a death sentence. Israel had such a law because God called them out to be separate from those around them (Isaiah 52:11; Deuteronomy 18:9). Those who would conform to the evil practices of the world around them had no place among a Holy people.
Deuteronomy 22:5 is talking about men pretending to be women and women pretending to be men. No one gets a choice in their gender. God chose when He created you in your mother's womb. To practice trangenderism is to tell God that He made a mistake. God does not make mistakes. Yes, I will agree that there are psychological issues in which a person may feel that they would be better suited to be the other gender. This is due to us living in a sinful world. However, just like all other sins, we have no control over what we are tempted by, but we do have control of what we yield to.
I Corinthians 6:9-11 lists several sins, among which is homosexuality. Two things we should note in this verse. First, homosexuality is named as a sin, and this is a New Testament passage. Second, Paul says, "And such WERE some of you" (v.11). "Were" is past tense. Homosexuality, just like any other sin, is washed clean by the blood of Jesus Christ when we are justified in Him. I would love to tell anyone that once we are justified by Jesus we are no longer tempted by our old temptations, but that is not so. However, what is true is that we have God's Holy Spirit living within us who will give us victory over sin. It can still be a struggle, but we can have victory in Jesus!
Finally, Romans 1:18-32 tells us why the LGBTQ movement seems to be growing so rapidly in our nation. We have turned our backs on God. We profess to be wise, and we worship the creation (ourselves) over the Creator (God). We think that we are the end all be all of the universe. This life is all about us and what makes us happy. We have become so self-absorbed that there is not enough room for us and God, so we have pushed Him out. He was pushed out of our lives, then our homes, then our schools and government. God warned us what would happen if this occurred. "Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions" (Romans 1:24-26). Immediately what follows is a description of homosexuality among females and males. The growth of the LGBTQ movement has to do with God being pushed out of our nation.
So, what is the takeaway from all of this? I'm glad you asked! The LGBTQ movement is sin. Sin has consequences. Just like all other sins, the consequences of sin is death (eternal separation from God in Hell). However, there is forgiveness for sins and healing that comes through Jesus Christ. I John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". We must call sin sin. However, we must also proclaim the Gospel. This is the only hope any of us have to escape the consequences of our sins.
Father, there is so much in our world that we do not understand if we have been Christians for very long. We cannot comprehend why our country is turning away from you so quickly. We do not like what we see, and it hurts us that so many "churches" are buying into the lies. Help us to speak the truth and your Gospel, and to always speak it in love. We know that we will be vilified, but help us to remember that this present suffering is nothing to be compared with the Glory that is to come!
