Psalm 24:1; Deuteronomy 32:39; Exodus 20:13

If the overturning of Roe revealed anything, it was the religious devotion that the pro-choice movement holds with their "right" to terminate life at their whim. The outcry was far more severe than when the government closed churches during COVID. Protests and riots ensued because, in their eyes, their freedom of religion had been violated. The proclamation of their prophets was that women would be second class citizens again and women were going to die in mass numbers. It was just as silly and sad a scene as the Prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel during the time of Elijah (I Kings 18:20-40).

The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein.

Psalm 24:1

Now see that I, even I, am He, And there is no God besides Me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; Nor is there any who can deliver from My hand.

Deuteronomy 32:39

You shall not murder.

Exodus 20:13

David said that the Earth (non-living) and everything that dwells in it (living) are God's. It is all His creation, and He is sovereign over it. This means that your life, and the life of every human being is God's. This includes the life of the unborn child that He (God) is forming in the mother's womb. That means He alone is responsible for life beginning and for life ending. The only time a person's life is to be taken is in self-defense (Exodus 22:2), war (Ecclesiastes 3:8), or for judgment of criminal action by the governing authority (Romans 13:1-4). Anything else is considered murder.

This was also true for the killing of a baby in the womb (Exodus 21:22-23). It was considered murder, and the murderer was to be executed. Let me be crystal clear, after over 63 million abortions being carried out, I am not saying we need to execute either mother or doctor for these crimes. What I am saying is that God holds us to a standard that most people do not want to acknowledge. If 63 million people were killed in the U.S. over a 50 year period from gun violence, we would have cries for action. Actually, there are cries for gun laws, and the number of gun deaths are much lower. In 2021, less than 49.000 people died from guns (over half were suicide). If we assume that the number was constant for 50 years (which it is not), that equals less than 2.5 million people. That is a horrific number, but the number of abortions is more than 25 times greater.

What makes abortion so bad is that half the nation is fighting in favor of it. No one sane is advocating for the right to murder people in the streets, and yet mothers are fighting for the "right" to murder their own children. They have been trained by culture to believe the lie of "my body, my choice". They have been conditioned to believe that the life growing inside them is not actually life. Views that were held for thousands of years, suddenly changed to support the abortion viewpoint, and 50 years later, it is engrained in our culture.

For Christians, God's Word is clear, "You shall not murder". Murder is the unjustified taking of a life. Convenience is not a justifiable reason to take a life. If it was, then we could kill everyone in the grocery store line who is in our way. We could kill all the people at Six Flags who were preventing us from getting on the roller coaster. A mother killing her child is just as selfish and senseless. God will not look kindly on this.

We must also ask the question, "What about the mothers who have had abortions? Is there forgiveness for murder?" The answer to this is YES. We must first confess that abortion is a sin. If we deny this, then there is no forgiveness. John said, "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (I John 1:8-9). When we confess our sins, and God forgives them, then He does not hold them against us anymore. The psalmist wrote, "As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us" (Psalm 103:12).

Yes, culture is broken concerning the issue of abortion. It can be changed, but it has to happen one person at a time. They must be confronted with the truth of God's Word. Then, God must convict and correct their thinking. Then and only then can there be redemption in our culture concerning this issue. As God told Solomon, "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land" (II Chronicles 7:14).

Father, we have sinned for over a generation. This sin is deeply ingrained in our culture, and we are powerless to change it. We confess it to You today. We ask You to forgive us as a nation. We pray for healing and a sanctification of our minds. For those wicked and unrepentant, we pray that You judge them for their sins, that the rest may know not to sin.
